Tariff (disambiguation)

Look up tariff in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.

A tariff is a tax on imported goods.

Tariff may also mean:

  • a schedule of prices or terms of how a product is sold, as in an electricity tariff published by an electric utility or electricity retailer. This would typically list the prices (or rates) for various services or components of the service such as: the service charge, time of use energy (kWh) charges and, for demand, (kW) charges. This type of tariff can also contain rules for usage and descriptions of the services provided. Transportation related associations or companies such as railroads, trucking firms, port terminals, and water carriers typically publish tariffs. Many tariffs have legal standing with regulatory agencies and may require approval by them. For example, the FCC requires tariffs from the telephone companies that describe their services and are approved by the FCC.
  • a synonym for rent. For example, "A $127 tariff is levied on students residing at Fenner Hall".
  • tariff (criminal law) is a recommendation for the length of a prison sentence to be served before the prisoner is eligible for parole in British criminal law
