Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP

WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to Wikipedia:High-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request. If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear. If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic vandalism problems like George W. Bush, and not to articles with half a dozen IP vandalism edits in the last fortnight.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

temporary semi-protection Vandalism, Quite a bit of vandalism this week. Marlith (Talk)  23:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Can someone please review the protection? It's labelled as semi-protected but IP's are still editing. Same thing on the David Cook (singer) article. --MartinezMD (talk) 23:11, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Protection expired yesterday, even though the tag was still up. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 23:29, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

semi-protect. Persistent vandalism. Page was already temporary semi-protected.--Irić Igor -- Ирић Игор -- K♥S (talk) 21:18, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. I'll do a week because I don't want to extend it too much over a high-profile article like a country. Re-report if it becomes a problem after then. Regards, PeterSymonds (talk) 21:42, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] <span id="Morro de São Paulo"/>Morro de São Paulo (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protect. IP users constantly add spam links to the "External links" section. Me and some other users have been reverting those edits, but they don't seem to give up. Now there's almost an entire history page of the aticle filled with IP edits and our reverts. Victor Lopes (talk) 19:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. PeterSymonds (talk) 19:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] <span id="Memorial Day"/>Memorial Day (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protect. Nine vandalisms from anon users this morning alone. Bots seem to be catching most of them, but a simple short term semi-protect at least until the holiday is over would give our hardworking anti-vandal bots the day off. Coradon (talk) 19:41, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. PeterSymonds (talk) 19:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

semi-protect. Daily vandalism by anonymous users including some offensive remarks - in general and directed at specific pupils of the school. Repeated small attacks make reverting the article difficult as you have to do it manually, only to be vandalized again. Thaf (talk) 18:33, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:41, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

semi-protect. Constant vandalism by a range of anonymous users. Failure to use the article's talk page or respond to evidence presented there. McPhail (talk) 18:02, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined, Not enough activity. There appears to be a revert war going on between two editors that ended this morning, so I see no reason to protect at this time. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] <span id="Big N' Tasty"/>Big N' Tasty (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Full Protection or Admin Intervention or Both - Edit war over whether split tags to split the article should be added or not. It is only between two editors right now, but they are both reverting each other. Thanks for looking :) <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 17:42, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined, Both editors have now been warned. They haven't quite violated 3RR, but they're pretty close. A dispute between two editors is never really handled with full protection; blocking is preferred if 3RR is broken. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 17:57, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] {{RussianPresidents}}

Full-protection. The semi]protection currently on here isn't working and something stronger needs to be done. The Quill (talk) 17:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected The protection had expired so that's why it was still being edited. I've restored the protection indefinitely, as there's no real need to edit this template. PeterSymonds (talk) 17:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try and ask the protecting admin first before making a request here. This is also not the place to dispute a protection.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection. temporary full protection Dispute, Constant edit warring regarding the members of the band - the subject is being talked out on the discussion page, but even though a consensus hasn't been reached, people are still edit warring - I request page protection until a consesus is reached on the talk page.≈ The Haunted Angel 13:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Declined Edit warring? I only see the IP making edits and then other editors reverting. The two uninvolved editors were adding to the article, one was fixing grammar, so was probably unaware of the dispute. The IP has been warned and has not edited the article since, therefore protection is unnecessary. PeterSymonds (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
